Rugby

I went to my first rugby game last night with some work friends, and I must say it was a fun experience. The audience gets really into the game and the rules are so different from those of the NFL. The clock never stops running and the ball never really stops moving. Instead of going for 3 hours, the game only lasts 80 minutes (plus a 10 minute halftime). There are no time-outs and when someone is tackled, the game isn't put on hold like it would be in America. It was a little confusing to watch at first, but I eventually caught on. The best part of the game, though, is that I was able to get some hot chips and tomato sauce to enjoy (they will glare at you if you say fries and ketchup).

Kangas!

I was on my way home from spending over 3 hours at the library today when I saw some kangaroos :)  There were about 20 of them off to the right, but they were too far away for me to get any good pictures with my phone.

Food and Wine Expo

I spent the last couple days at Canberra’s Food and Wine Expo with a couple friends and had an enjoyable time, not to mention that the food was delicious! We met a few local Australians who gave us the down low on where to travel and whatnot, which was really helpful. We also spent some time with Outback Matty, a chef that will be traveling to the US this summer to be on Good Morning America, Ellen DeGeneres and a couple other cooking shows. He specializes in Bush Tucker Recipes, which are generally made with natural herbs and things from the Bush. He cooked some Kangaroo on a Himalayan Salt Block for us, and I have to say that it was really good!

Weekend Away in Sydney

My point and shoot camera has been disagreeing with me about functioning correctly (or at all) lately, but luckily I was able to get a few good shots with it this weekend. I went on a weekend trip with 51 other foreign exchange students to Sydney and had so much fun! We ventured to the top of the 'Sydney Tower Eye' to get an overview of the city, walked the Sydney bridge, explored the gardens around the Sydney Opera House and traveled to a nearby beach. The city was absolutely beautiful!
